Go easy on em folks! They are trying to stay alive..

I've been working hard since 1997 to bring independent Christian artists together to provide them community, tools, and help with my Indieheaven organization. We've helped thousands learn what it is to be a musicianary and a servant.

Issue is.. many indies still want to be part of the old industry and play an old game in the old stadium.... (getting signed, agents, contracts, etc).. I believe there is strength in numbers, and if indies would come together to share information, share resources, and serve one another, we can put this old industry to death once and for all.. Some get it, however many still think the only way they can "make it" is to play the old game. And some are too darn independent. Can't get them to come together. They are lone rangers..

United we'll succeed, divided we'll fail.

You know I was thinking James Brown when I saw the title, but I think this version is better suited for kids going back to school. :)

The point is that this is a horrible year to take them away from Nashville even if it is for 1 year. Nashville is hurting right now. Many of the folks within the music industry are dealing with losses. Hotels, restaurants and other businesses are struggling to rebound. Even though you may no longer be seeing it on TV, there is still a lot of loss and homelessness. Every dollar spent in our city right now helps the rebound!

There are smaller venues in Nashville. You don't have to go to Atlanta to find that. Maybe cheaper ticket prices? Maybe they put new artists on the show instead of the same ones every year? Maybe they add some kind of fan aspect surrounding the show to bring fans to town?

Additionally -- this is only a one-year deal w/ the city of Atlanta and I know for certain that they plan on returning to Nashville in 2012.

So I can understand this being a "blow" to the city of Nashville, but my question to you is -- what other solution is there? Did you attend the 2010 awards? Did you see the empty pockets of seats? Any promoter would move to a smaller venue if they had that many empty seats. The 2010 Doves certainly were not sold out, heck the awards that you took me to in 2005 weren't nearly sold out either.

What solution would you offer the GMA -- to keep the awards in Nashville?

This post was informative in more ways than one. It really makes you think about all the different aspects of a company, not just the recording industry but others as well (athletes, actors, etc). Each job takes a lot to do it right, and this example even assumes that you have the right people in each position to do their job effectively.

I think if more people took an honest look and used this scenario, there would be way less "independent" artists, and maybe, just maybe people would have a larger appreciation for making music.

My guess is that it has a whole lot to do with it now being the "GMC" music awards and not the GMA Dove Awards. GMC's based in Atlanta, it would make sense they'd want to do the show there. Good luck on getting the talent down there from Nashville. It will be another financial blow to our community.
