Deadlines are created for a purpose. They help organizations or groups of people accomplish a task by keeping a project on track. Deadlines provide a clear finish line for completion of a project. Creating and marketing music are driven by deadlines so I know their importance all too well.
Many people respect deadlines while others choose to ignore them. Those who ignore deadlines often excuse themselves in the name of creativity. The process of recording and releasing music is filled with creatives including writers, artists, musicians, producers, engineers, designers, and marketers lending itself to derailment at multiple points along the way. Regardless of excuses, one of two things will be defined by every deadline: 1) Respect or 2) Disruption.
